The small print

I got a letter yesterday from the manufacturer of my television/monitor. In bold letters at the top, it says 'Safeguard your LG LCD television for 3 years'. It repeats  'No repair bills for the next three years' at the top of a paragraph, and finally goes on to say I can have 3 years' peace of mind by buying their extended warranty.

One short sentence explains "(the repair plan) will protect you against repair bills for a further 2 years after your guarantee expires'.

So, for all the repeated iteration of '3 years', you're actually paying for just two with this plan. The other year was included with the initial purchase. And that free year is now mostly up anyway. So my '3 years' peace of mind' would run out in about 26 months.

I dug out the warranty for my telly, and was interested to see that it clearly declares '3 year on-site swap out warranty'. So I have my 3 years' peace of mind anyway.

Misleading money-grubbers.
