Food - sorted

I've being doing some batch preparing, so don't need to put much effort in over the next couple of days. Last night I made fruit salad again. This time I used apples, tinned oranges, (somewhat overripe) melon, strawberries and red grapes, which look like little jewels. I added a dash of white rum, because I could, and left it overnight to let the flavours mingle. Should be enough for at least three generous helpings.

I've currently got a llarge panful of stew brewing on the stove. I could be posh and call it Hearty Winter Vegetables with Pulses and Bacon. There's onion, garlic, swede, potato, carrot, red lentils, pearl barley and bacon. Tomato puree and dried rosemary was added to the vegetable stock cube. It should be tasty and filling, and there'll be enough for last for at last three days. So half an hour's work getting it going will mean almost no work in the kitchen till about, say, Thursday. Minimal washing up created, and it's healthy too !

I like stews.

If you're stew fan, can I recommend you get hold of a slow cooker. Argos had ones for about £10 last year or you could add it to your Xmas list. They're v cheap to run and fab for batch cooking with little effort. With them you don't even need to keep an eye on the stove!
