A short while ago, I suddenly thought about shooting stars, and wondered what the conditions were like for seeing any. I believe that the forecast had been that Sat would be better, weatherwise.
So I opened the skylight in the living room and peered out into the cold, clear night. I had a lovely view of the Big Dipper in the sky right opposite my window. Much better conditions for star-gazing than last night up in the park. I saw the lights of an aeroplane going across the sky, rather lowish, and then I saw what I think was a shooting star.
It was rather faint, and didn't have a sparkling trail after it. I followed the track of something arcing downwards, not visible consistantly and fading out altogether before reaching the horizon. The light wasn't bright or sharp enough to be artificial. So I think I happened to glance out of my living room window at just the right time to see a shooting star.
