Soup of the day

A couple of weeks ago, I bought myself a new kitchen gadget - a soup maker. Basically, it's a blender that attaches to a heating unit, with a timer. You can use it just as a regular blender/liquidizer, as well as for soups, sauces etc.

Tonight I got round to using it for the first time. I used the recipe for carrot and coriander soup, but with parsnips and sage instead. And I don't have olive oil, so I used toasted sesame oil. Oh, and I added a dash of Henderson's Relish. But apart from that...

It was all done, from start to served, in about half an hour. The great advantage of this gadget is that you cook your soup and blend all in the same item, so there's only one thing to wash up. The timer means that once everything's in, it takes care of itself. My soup was really nice, and I have another helping for tomorrow.

I need to get into the habit of using it regularly, but for every session, I'm going to end up with two or three helpings. I have more parsnips and leeks to experiment with. Plus recipies for carrot soup, cauliflower cheese soup, lentil soup etc. Next time I cook a ham hock, I can keep the scrappy bits and make ham and lentil soup.

Mmm...soup.
