Reminds me of something....

Watching the Royal Wedding this morning, we were discussing what on earth it was that Princess Beatrice had perched on top of her head.

One suggestion was that it was a facehugger, but I think that this pic I found online might be a better guess:

I couldn't believe that thing (or the very unflattering outfit her sister wore). The only explanation I could think of was that the milliner had a bet on finding someone clueless enough to wear it.

I see you're not the only one to see the resemblance (third para).

You're right - it must be some kind of pagan fertility symbolism. The possibility that she actually thought it looked good is too unbelievable...

Someone on Brightcecilia had an alternative explanation, and if I didn't know Minsky had been in all day yesterday I'd be asking him some questions right now:

Sarah said it looked like one of those Victorian wall-mouldings for framing pictures. Someone else said she'd better have made sure Philip was unarmed before turning up wearing antlers.

I guess it worked if she wanted attention...
