Out and About

Got an unexpected phone call from Helen just after lunch, saying she was taking Ven to a garden centre later in the afternoon and did I want to come along ? Well, I don't really need anything gardenwise as the moment, but I said 'yes' anyway.
In the end I got an ornament - a pretty wire and glass dragonfly on a stick, to set somewhere among the shrubbery. It was only £3, so if someone nicks it, it won't be too much of a loss.
Helen and I got sucked in by the 3 clematis for £10 offer. They were quite nice, well-grown plants. I've fancied having a clematis for ages, and decided I could grow one in the same corner where the new honeysuckle is. I got a 'Aljonushka', which has pink, bell-shaped flowers. Helen got one of those too, and a purple-flowered variery. I can always get a cutting off that later, if I want another.

The D&D group have been planning our Plays in the Park for this year. We're going to see 'Twelfth Night' on Fri 22nd. I'm also going to Nottingham the next night with Steve and Helen to see 'Cry Blue Murder'. They're on holiday when it's being performed in Sheffield, hence the Nottingham trip.

And while considered events, the dates are out for Jasper's signing sessions for 'First Among Sequels'. He's doing a lunchtime signing in Sheffield on 13th July. I'm fairly sure his Leeds appearance is a lunchtime signing too. Not much opportunity at those for a good meet and mingle, but he's doing an evening event in Manchester on the 12th July. Anyone interested in a get-together ?

Must be nice to have a choice of signings. Jasper's yet to have one less than 200 miles from my house, and this year it's more like 600 miles to the nearest signing (which I won't be going to).

What a shame there aren't any events remotely near you. Pester Jasper to come closer, maybe for next year.

Pestering Jasper doesn't really help, as it's the publisher who makes the decisions on the US tour locations.

Myself, dakegra, rob_the_tyke and _generica_ (at least) will be at the Manchester event. Last year we inveigled Jasper down the pub afterward, and the plan is to do the same. Come along!

Better sort out ticket for Manchester event and train ticket then.

I'm green with envy, but my budget doesn't run to transatlantic trips for book signings.

How about a holiday i the UK that just happens to co-incide with a book signing ?

I don't have a spare bedroom, otherwise I'd offer you a place to stay :(

I'd love to do a holiday in the UK someday, but the budget doesn't run to it at the moment. If I ever do get over there, I'd love to get together with my online friends there, and a Jasper related event might be a likely way to do so.

I wonder how cheaply I could manage a trip to and around the UK if I found enough friends with a spare bedroom or couch space I could borrow...

My trips to the USA have been made affordable by staying with generous friends. American hospitality has been much appreciated.

Of course, given the relative values of the pound and the dollar at the moment, it's way cheaper for me to visit the USA than for you to come here.

I quite like to have wisteria one day... but I don't have any space for it atm.

And clematis is gorgeous! :)

I do like clematis, but I've never grown one before. I'm just hoping it will be happy where I put it.
