All sewn up

I got a new pair of lightweight trousers of ebay the other week for summer wear. I had to shorten them, as usual, but the back pockets needed attention too.

The trousers have fully made inset pockets at the back. Which were machined stitched closed about an inch below the opening. This wasn't just the token couple of stitches holding the pocket closed that I've seen on clothes before. They were firmly stitched closed. I had to take the seam ripper to them to open them up so I could use them.

Why ?

Why on earth make real, functional pockets for your clothes and then machine stitch them firmly closed and useless ?

Why ?

I've done the same thing to a couple of pairs of trousers that had really nice and deep, lined pockets which were machine stiched closed,- and these were bought new! Like yourself I took a seam ripper to them and got use out of the pockets.
