fluff of doom

Tuesday  I did a batch of laundry, including an old chenille jumper. It was looking a little thin in places, and evidently coming to the end of its life  - I've had it several years now. (how long is it since chenille jumpers were in all the shops - 10 years ?)

Well, this was one wash too many. When I pulled the laundry out of the machine, everything - and I mean everything - was coated in a layer of orange fluff. Four t-shirts, one jumper, a pair of trousers and several pairs of knickers and socks. The culprit was still shedding bits every time I rubbed it. So the chenille is now in the bin; there was no hope for it.

The rest of the laundry was dried as usual, and I've been de-fluffing it in batches. I have a brush with rubber bristles and blade, intended for removing cat hair from furniture. It's been doing a good job of removing fluff from my clean clothes, but it's a tedious business.

Nooooo! I remember that jumper - it really suited you. :-(

Sticky tape does a good job, too, but you do need a lot of it. I got Klinsmann's fur (about half a catload, at an educated guess) out of my green shawl that way.

I have a sticky roller thingie for removing fluff from clothes, but given the total surface area of the all the garments that need cleaning, I'd get through an awful lot of tape, which seems wasteful, especially when there's an alternative (the brush).

And thank you for the compliment about the jumper.

Oh, and I just tried to email you but it got bounced back. Twice. Same address from my address book I've used before.

Oh, been there, done that, got the linty t-shirt! Good luck on getting it all cleaned off your other clothing.

I purchased 3 somewhat expensive and really beautifully dyed chenille sweaters (jumpers) from a very reputable catalog about 5 or 6 years ago and the first time I wore one, I felt like Pig Pen from the Peanuts comics...walking around with a cloud of dust around me. No joke, it was everywhere! I had a friend in town and we were out doing the tour and my van was completely covered in a purple haze...I had to clean the dash and the windshield!

I thought it was a fluke until I wore the red one at my brother-in-law's house...it shed horribly too! I ended up having to vacuum their bathroom before we left because it had shed so badly!!

I even tried washing both sweaters to see if that would alleviate the problem but I just ended up clogging the washer's drain hose. I ended up sending back all 3 sweaters. I was so sad because they were absolutely gorgeous, felt wonderful on and fit quite well, but I couldn't breathe for all the lint they gave off! Not good for someone with asthma, that's for sure.
