Got the needle

Did some sewing last week. I had to turn up the yoga pants I got for gym class, which I did on the sewing machine without any trouble.

I also wanted to make a little toy cat as a leaving present for Phil. I have a nice pattern for a very simple toy which I figured would be small enough to tuck into the corner of a suitcase. I made it from the remains of the very short-pile, velvety fabric I used for Adam's Dread Pirate Roberts shirt. The cat I'd done before (for Adam, same fabric), I made with white underbelly. This one I made entirely in black, but gave it the white Yorkshire Rose as a white patch on its chest.

it's just a few inches long, and I'm pleased with the results:

Sewing it was rather hard work though. Because of the small size and curvy seams, I didn't want to do it on the machine. Unfortunately, I'd left my sewing needles at Chris' on Sunday - I'd taken them to repair a hole in a top while I was at role playing. The only remotely suitable needles were the embroidery ones, with rounded ends, instead of nice sharp points. As you can see, I still sewed OK with them, but it was harder work than it should have been.

Some day, I'll make one of these for myself. At least I've got the sewing needles back now.

Cute and minimalist. But why does it have a flower on its underside?

The flower is the white rose of Yorkshire - a symbol of home for Phil, who's off to live in America.
